Welcome December!

Thursday, December 2nd
Welcome: a.m. - file folder games
p.m. - file folder games
LBQ: What is your favorite thing to do in the winter? "Playing in the snow! Snowball fights! Learning how to make a snowman! Drink hot chocolate! " These Arizona kids definitely understood what winter is supposed to look like- even though we don't get to see any snow. They are always so hopeful when we do a weather check during calendar time that today will be the day that we get to use the 'snowy' picture!
Song: We sang "Decorate The Tree" to the tune of 'Frere Jacques' and added hand motions to go with the words.
Decorate the tree, decorate the tree.
Hang up the ornaments, hang up the ornaments.
Put a star on top, put a star on top.
What a beautiful Christmas tree, what a beautiful Christmas tree!
Book: The Christmas Tree. After we read the story, we talked about the similarities we noticed between the bear family in the story and the song that we sang.
Concepts: We introduced our learning fundamentals for the month of December. Students explored AABB patterns, the letter Mm, the colors red and green, the star shape and the number 5. For the number 5, each child got to pick an action that the rest of the class would do 5 times. Some of our favorites were spinning in circles, jumping and doing 'sparkle fingers'! We also sang the song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" to remind us of the star shape.
Activity: We decorated a Christmas tree that will decorate the art room in the preschool before being sent home.
Snack
Reviewed the correct formation, sound and sign for the letter Mm. We also sang our letter song.
The letter M, the letter M,
Has a sound, has a sound.
What sound do you make, what sound do you make?
M/M/M
Playtime!
