Creepy, crawling, little BUGS!!

Sorry it has taken me forever to post this! My computer is giving me a very hard time these days...

Welcome: Blocks!

LBQ: How many kinds of bugs can you think of? "spiders, ladybugs, crickets, scorpions, rolly pollies, butterflies"

Pledge/Weather/Calendar

We introduced and welcomed our two new friends, Carmen and Tatyana! We're so glad to have you in our class!

Song: A Parade of Colors. This is a song we listen to on a CD. Each child is given a color, then as they listen to the song they are given directions on what to do for their color. It is a great listening activity as well as learning their colors!

Book: Bugs in Your Backyard by Rozanne Lanczak Williams. In this book we count all the different kinds of bugs you might find in your backyard.

Activity: We got started on a butterfly craft. The children had to color on a tissue (a coffee filter) with markers. After they sprayed it with water and watched all of the colors mix together.

Snack

Introduce "Fun"damentals-
Purple/Pink: Each child had a turn to find the colors around the room.
Oval: We learned a poem...
An oval, an oval, it rolls all around. (Roll hands around each other in a circle.)
It looks like a circle (make a circle with arms overhead)
That fell to the ground. (drop arms to the ground)
AAB: We took turns thinking of a way to make the AAB pattern with our actions. (ie. clap, clap, knees, clap, clap, knees)
9: We played our follow the leader game. Each child had a turn to wear the number 9 necklace and choose an action that everyone would do 9 times.
Jj: We learned the sign and the song for Jj, then we completed a coloring page and worksheet.

The letter Jj. The letter Jj. (Make ASL sign for letter, showing one hand, then the other.)
Has a sound. Has a sound. (Bring one hand to ear, then the other hand to the other ear.)
What sound do you make? What sound do you make? (Palms facing up, shrugging shoulders.)
