Community Helpers

September 6th

Welcome: Blocks

LBQ: What does your mom or your dad do for work? We had police men, a fireman, a teacher, people who "keep the bad guys in jail", people who stay home and watch the kids, people who go to an office, a doctor...

Pledge/Weather/Calendar

Song: We talked about construction workers, then we sang this song.  The kids laughed and laughed.  We had to do it more than once!

Johnny's Hammers

(Make hammering motion with one fist)
Johnny had one hammer, one hammer, one hammer
Johnny had one hammer then he had two.

(Make hammering motion with both fists)
Johnny had two hammers, two hammers, two hammers
Johnny had two hammers then he had three.

(Make motion with both fists and one leg)
Johnny had three hammers, three hammers, three hammers
Johnny had three hammers then he had four.

(Make motion with both fists and both legs)
Johnny had four hammers, four hammers, four hammers
Johnny had four hammers then  he had five.

(Make motion with both fists and both legs and head)
Johnny had five hammers, five hammers, five hammers
Johnny had five hammers and then he went to sleep! (lay hands like sleeping)

Book: The Police Station by Michi Fujimoto. We talked about policemen and how they help us.

Activity: Community Helper Concentration.  We had matching cards with different community helpers on them (pilot, fireman, teacher, nurse, vet, etc.), the kids all took turns turning two cards over to try and make a match.  When a match was made we talked about that community helper.

Activity: We began our "every day helper" worksheet.  The children colored it today.

Snack!

Review Square: Freeze Dance!  We sang our square song again, then we danced around the square.  We also tip toed and jumped!  Then we hopped inside, outside, next to, and on the square.

Introduce Ee: We learned the sign and song.

Playtime!

I forgot my camera on this day and there are no pictures!  I'm sorry!
