Brrrr. It's cold in the Arctic!

Tuesday, January 11th

Welcome: Penguin Coloring Page-The kids had a color key they had to use to color the penguin.

LBQ (learning box question): What can you think of that is black and white? A lot of them found things in the room. When I directed them towards animals, they started thinking of cows, dogs, zebras and cats.

Pledge/Weather/Calendar

We reviewed our 3 preschool rules 1. Listen and follow directions 2. Keep hands and feet to yourself 3. Share and take turns. Then we introduced our new preschool friends!

Song: The kids had fun making up actions to this little song. :)

I'm a Little Penguin
tune of I'm a Little Teapot
I'm a little penguin, look at me!
Fishing and swimming in the deep blue sea.
My wings are black and my tail is white
And I like sliding down the snow so bright!

Introduce "fun"dumentals
*Black/White: We found the colors around the room
*Rectangle: We examined the rectangle, then we recited this poem...

Two sides short (hands up, palms facing in, close together)
And two sides long, (hands up, palms facing in, far apart)
That makes this shape very strong! (show muscles)
It's a rectangle, that's its name. (draw a rectangle in the air)
All the sides are not the same. (shake head no)
*ABC Pattern: We discussed how a pattern repeats itself over and over. Then we looked at a few examples of an ABC pattern and made our own ABC patterns.
*Six 6: We played our follow the leader action game! This is one of the kid's favorites. Each child gets a turn to wear the number 6 necklace and chose an action that everyone repeats 6 times.

Book: Polar Animals by Wade Cooper. We read this story about animals that live in the polar areas and introduced the Arctic theme.

Snack

Introduce Ii - We learned the ASL sign for Ii and sang our song.

The Letter Ii
(to the tune of Are You Sleeping?)
The letter Ii. The letter Ii. (Make ASL sign for letter, showing one hand, then the other.)
Has a sound. Has a sound. (Bring one hand to ear, then the other hand to the other ear.)
What sound do you make? What sound do you make? (Palms facing up, shrugging shoulders.)
/i/ /i/ /i/! /i/ /i/ /i/! (Make ASL sign for letter, moving hand forward and backward for each sound.)

Playtime!
