We love the beginning of preschool! Everything is new. Markers, crayons, paint, table clothes, decorations, and new friends! We had a great first day. Miss Amber and I had fun with students from last year and getting to know some new students. Preschool is a fun age. They are so excited to learn new things and from the beginning of the year to the end of the year we see a lot of growth! Thank you again, for letting us teach your children. :)

Welcome-Blocks
Every day we have a welcome activity that lasts about 5 minutes while all the children arrive and get settled.
LBQ-Learning Box Question: After our welcome activity we gather in the preschool and sing our Learning Box Song. Whoever brought snack is our helper for the day; they choose a question out of the Learning Box and we all talk about it.

AM-What is your favorite number? There were a lot of 3, 4, and 5's, because that's how old they are!

Pledge/Weather/Calendar This activity will usually follow the LBQ. We have a jar of sticks with the children's names on them; when we need helpers we draw a stick and if they are sitting "criss cross applesauce" with quiet mouths they can come help. First is pledge. One child holds the flag while everyone repeats the Pledge of Allegiance. Second is weather. Our "weatherman" looks out of the window and tells us what the weather's like, then points the pointer in the right direction on our weather board. (We get really excited when it's raining outside... something other than sunny!) Third is calendar. We learn about the month and days of the week. We also use this time to review numbers and patterns.

We sat in a circle and took turns singing this to each child. If they wanted they got to stand in the middle and dance! After the song we played the name game. We had a big ball and we each took a turn saying, "I am _____ and I'm throwing the ball to _____."
Book: The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. This is a story about a little raccoon who is nervous to go to his first day of school. His mother calms him by giving him "the kissing hand."
Activity: We made our own kissing hand by tracing the children's hands and gluing a kiss in the middle.
SNACK Our helper passes out their snack and we say, "Snack time has come! It's time to eat. Let's wish everyone bon appetit! Bon appetit! You may eat!" Always a favorite time of day. :)
Activity: We let the children choose a folder then they got to decorate it with stickers! We explained that this folder should come back every day and that there are tracing pages inside they can do at home with the marker provided. Be sure they know not to pull the paper our of the sleeve and to wipe the marker off after they've finished!
Fundamental: Introduce Aa - Sign/Song/Coloring page/Worksheet Every Tuesday we will learn a new letter. We learn the American Sign Language for that letter, we sing a song, then we color a page that goes a long with it, those that are ready will also complete a worksheet on the back that gives them extra practice. (Today we didn't have time for the coloring page/worksheet and we had to save it for Thursday.)
