I am Special!

August 9th

Welcome:  Color Bears (Different colors of bears and different colors of buckets.  The kids can put the correct color bear in the correct bucket or they can use the bears to create a pattern or use them in their own creative ways) & Shape Lacing (We have several different shapes that have holes around the outside of the shape.  The kids can take the shoe string and lace it through the holes around the shape.)

AM - What is your favorite color? Red, Blue, Green, Rainbow, Pink, Pink, Pink

PM - What is your favorite thing to do with your family? Playing games, movies, going to the beach...

Pledge/Weather/Calendar

Song: We sang Stand Up and Turn Around again.  The kids really enjoy this song.

Book: All Kinds of Kids by Christina Mia Gardeski. This book talked about all different kinds of children and how they all like to do different things.  Then we talked about how each of us in the class is different and how that makes us special.

Activity: "Someone Special Box" The children each took turns coming up to see the very special person in my box.  There was a mirror in my box!  We talked again about how special they were then, to prepare for the next activity, we discussed how they each looked different too.

Activity: Writing page & Self portrait - Every child had a page that said, "My name is _____.  I am __ years old. Here is a picture of me." They did their best to fill in the blanks, then they each drew a picture of themselves.

Fundamentals

Circle: Freeze Dance! This is one of the kids favorites that we play every month.  We put the shape we are learning about on the ground with tape.  We review, then we play freeze dance.  The kids dance, walk, jump, etc., around the shape while music is playing; when the music stops they freeze like statues! Then we jump inside, on, next to and outside of the shape.
